Beauty Tips from Makeup Artist Bobbi Brown

Recently, my copy of Bobbi Brown's latest masterpiece, From Everyone from Beginner to Pro: Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual, arrived in the mail. I knew that once I started reading some of the chapters, I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. And I was so right! Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual is both educational and entertaining. Check out the tips that Bobbi Brown gives Middle Eastern beauties:

Use a corrector to brighten very dark under-eye circles.

Sometimes you have to layer a few correctors (pink over peach), and then add concealer.

Find a yellow-toned foundation that exactly matches the skin. The right foundation often has a bit of orange as well.

Line the eyes with black liner or a charcoal shadow. Never go lighter than mahogany.

Use blush in deep rose and pink shades. Don't be afraid to find your pop of color.

Deep lip colors look wonderful on those with darker lip tones.

Avoid colors that turn ashy.

Heidi Klum at the 81st Academy Awards

81st Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals
Have I mentioned how much I love Victoria's Secret beauty products? I'm still a virgin when it comes to their lingerie but I was able to find a Victoria's Secret outlet near me and I hope to visit soon! Anyway, Heidi Klum was made up by celebrity makeup artist Linda Hay for Victoria's Secret Beauty. Serge Normant did her hair.

Inspired by Heidi's Roland Mouret gown, Hay decided to create a softer, natural look to compliment the graphic and bold red silhouette. There was no need to compete!

Hay wanted to bring out on Heidi’s dramatic eyes and also incorporate the powder pink color of the coral and diamond Lorraine Schwartz jewelry on the lips and cheeks. Linda sought to create a look that was light and dewy while still modern and sexy.

Eyes. Linda began by lining the top and bottom lashes with Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Eyeliner in Dark Chocolate and highlighting the inside triangle of the eye with a shimmering nude eye shadow in Champagne. She then used the Victoria Secret Spring Look Eye Shadow Quad to highlight the eyes and make them pop. Using a large shadow brush, Hay applied Rich to the crease, Devoted to the eyelid and Champagne again as a highlighter under the brow and the inside corner of the eye. Using a smaller point shadow brush she blended a soft line under the eye from the outside corner to the tear duct. To finish, Linda applied three coats of Victoria’s Secret High Definition Mascara in Blackest Black.

Cheeks. On the cheeks, Linda used the new Victoria’s Secret Highlighter/Blush Duo in Flesh to the apple of the cheek to create the allusion of more defined bone structure.

Lips. Linda lined the lips with the Perfect Lipstick in Whisper followed by Victoria’s Secret Lip Gloss in Blush for subtle pink finish.

Frieda Pinto at the 81st Annual Academy Awards

If you adore this look on Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto, here is what you need to create it:

Celebrity makeup artist Jeffrey Paul incorporated the colors of a "morning sunrise."

"Tonight's look was about elegance, " says Paul. "It's about the youthful radiance of a young woman."

Paul used Diorskin Nude in Honey Beige. To get that pretty glow, Freida wore Diorskin Shimmer Star in Amber Diamond. Everything was set with DiorSkin Nude Powder in Deep.

Paul used Dior 1-Colour Eyeshadow in Blooming Pink, Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Beige Messai (a soft brown shade), Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Night Dust (a deep brown shade) for Freida's eyes. He then coated her lashes with DiorShow Mascara in Brown

I love the rose color that Freida is wearing. Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Sheer Rose was used.

For her gown and accessories, Freida Pinto wore a John Galliano gown, Jimmy Choo shoes and a Judith Leiber bag. Her ring is from Martin Katz, with a 150 year old vintage diamond from India.

How To: Kate Winslet's Grace Kelly-inspired Coif

I think we all can agree that Kate Winslet looked smashingly elegant Oscar night but are you dying to know how her Grace Kelly-inspired coif was created? Thanks to Emily Hebert of Elle, I can finally spill the details!

“The inspiration was Grace Kelly,” says Renato Campora, who styled Winslet’s hair for Frédéric Fekkai. “I wanted to aspire to her look—the Oscars were the perfect occasion.”

Step 1. Campora applied Fekkai More All Day Density Styling Whip on wet hair, and blow-dried with a round brush to create volume.

Step 2. He used a 1-inch curling iron; after letting curls set for 20 minutes, he massaged Fekkai Coiff Magnifique Ultra Light Finishing Crème into strands and brushed through “to create body wave and shape.”

Step 3. In creating the perfectly-crafted roll at the nape of Winslet’s neck, Campora teased the bottom section of Winslet’s hair and tucked under.

Step 4. Combing sleek strands over this base, he then pinned and finished with Frédéric Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray.

“I wanted to do something where people say, ‘Wow!’ but also keep with simplicity,” says Campora of the final, sculpted hairstyle, adding, “It’s different than a bun or chignon—it’s more modern.”

Kate Winslet at the 81st Annual Academy Awards

Kate Winslet is one classic beauty, is she not? And how fantastic is that she won for The Reader?! She wore a multi toned, one-shoulder YSL gown. Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey wanted to create a classic, natural look. First, she prepped Kate’s skin with Lancôme La Base Pro primer to create a smooth canvas for a polished complexion. She lightly brushed Lancôme Brow Expert in Naturel on the brows to play up their natural shape. Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Eyeshadow Trio in Ice Shimmer was applied to the eyes and the lashes were coated with Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Mascara in Black. To create a sheer, neutral colored lip, Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Old Flame was applied for a soft, matte finish.

Angelina Jolie at the 81st Annual Academy Awards

It seems like it was back to basics for Angelina Jolie. Here she is seen with signature black eyeliner, nude lips, and long hair. However, the beautiful emerald drop earrings provided the pizazz needed to give this look a burst of fun. Do you agree? She is wearing a black strapless Elie Saab gown.
Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton applied Lancome Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to the upper and lower lash lines. She emphasized the shape of Angelina’s eyes by applying more liner to the outer corners of the eye. Several coats of Lancome Ôscillation Mascara were applied to the upper lashes for added volume and length. Mary put a touch of pink to the cheeks using Shu Uemura Blush in M Pink 31 and applied it to her cheekbones near the temple. To create ultra-shiny and luminous lips, Mary used Lancome Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.
